FAQ
Why should I use tallow?
Using tallow on your skin provides deep moisturization due to its fatty acids that closely mimic your skin’s natural oils, making it excellent for combating dryness. It’s rich in essential vitamins A, D, E, and K, which support skin health through repair, soothing inflammation, and protecting against damage. Tallow is a natural, minimal-ingredient option that’s gentle on sensitive skin and offers anti-inflammatory properties to aid in healing conditions like eczema and acne. Additionally, it strengthens the skin’s barrier, helping to prevent moisture loss and protect against environmental stressors. With its versatile forms—whipped, balms, lotion bars, and soaps—tallow is a versatile, effective choice for comprehensive skincare.
How do I use tallow?
To use tallow, first choose the form that best suits your needs—whipped tallow for light daily moisturizing, balms for intense hydration, lotion bars for travel, or tallow soaps for gentle cleansing. Begin by cleansing your skin to remove dirt or makeup. For moisturizing, apply a small amount of tallow to clean, slightly damp skin, massaging it in to lock in moisture. Use balms or lotion bars on particularly dry areas and replace your regular soap with tallow soap for a nourishing cleanse. Apply tallow daily or as needed, and always do a patch test if trying a new product to avoid adverse reactions.
Where does your tallow come from?
We source our tallow from grass fed cattle only. We feel that grass fed cattle produce the best tallow with all the vitamins and nutrients that help restore skin.
Why do you add other ingredients like beeswax and essential oils?
We use beeswax because it is a solid wax that hardens up the tallow and keeps it from melting into a blob. Beeswax is also really good for the skin as it creates a natural barrier that helps lock in moisture and protect against environmental factors. It’s super moisturizing and contains fatty acids that soften and hydrate, making it perfect for dry skin. Plus, its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties can help soothe irritation and keep bacteria at bay.
We also use Jojoba oil which is fantastic for your skin because it closely resembles your skin's natural oils, which helps balance moisture and keep things hydrated without feeling greasy. It’s packed with vitamins E and B, antioxidants, and essential fatty acids that nourish and protect your skin. Jojoba oil also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can soothe irritation and reduce redness. Plus, it helps regulate sebum production, making it great for both dry and oily skin types.
The essential oil blend we use is from Plant Therapy and is their "Skin Soother" blend. The essential oils in the blend are helpful for problem skin and it smells nice, so we've included this in our tallow products.
Will my tallow melt if it’s hot outside when you ship it?
It might melt a little…For the balms, sticks and lip balms, its not much of a big deal if they melt because you can just sit them upright in a cool location and they will solidify once again.
If you ordered a whipped tallow balm, they are more susceptible to melting and during heat waves we require a signature upon delivery for any whipped balm to ensure it’s in good condition when you receive it.
How should I store my tallow balm?
The best place to store it is a cool dry location out of direct sunlight. No need to refrigerate as they are shelf stable.
How long will it last?
Our tallow products are fresh for up to 1 year.
